Can I put any type of performance can on my 1991 Arctic Cat Jag AFS 440 Deluxe?

I was wondering if I could. Perhaps cut the pipe alittle and then weld the can in the gap? I'm not sure what I could do. Any ideas if it's possible or if it's just impossible.
